Heading to the Toyota/Save Mart 350 and hoping to score an autograph or snap a photo with your favorite NASCAR driver? Here are some tips to boost your chances:
Get there early
Driver appearances usually follow tight schedules filled with practice sessions, media events, and fan interactions. Arriving right when the gates open (Fri/Sat 10:00 a.m., Sun 7:00 p.m.) gives you the best shot at getting into driver meet-and-greets, autograph signings, and interactive zones like Sonoma Raceway’s Fan Zone.
Check the weekend schedule.
Stay updated by reviewing the official NASCAR and Sonoma Raceway schedules for any fan-focused activities, including autograph sessions or driver stage appearances. Many drivers take part in special pre-race or post-race events, and those are usually announced ahead of time. Social media is also a great way to catch last-minute updates or surprise signing opportunities.
Watch for driver appearances.
Sponsors, race teams, and the track often host special fan events. Some are open to all ticket holders, while others are tied to hospitality areas. Keep an eye out for Fan Fests, sponsor activations, and stage shows — they often feature driver autograph sessions or Q&As.
Know where to be
While pit and garage access is limited, certain experiences and upgraded passes can get you closer. Keep an eye out around the Fan Zone, garage areas, and driver walkways — drivers often pass through these spots on their way to cars or media duties. Some will stop for quick fan interactions if time allows.
Bring something to sign
Autograph moments can happen fast, so have something ready — hats, hero cards, die-cast cars, or shirts work perfectly. Personal items make the experience more special and make it easier for drivers to sign on for the move.
Be respectful and patient.
Drivers have packed schedules, especially on race day. If you get a chance to approach one, stay polite — they may only have a few seconds to spare. Signing events can draw big crowds and long lines, so a little patience and courtesy go a long way.
Upgrade for Ultimate Fan Pass.
If you’re a hardcore NASCAR fan, the Ultimate Fan Pass is the way to go. It gives you all-weekend access to the garage and pit road, so you can get a behind-the-scenes look at where the action really happens.
Note: You’ll need a separate ticket for the NASCAR Cup Series race to buy this pass.
Upgrade for Pre-race pass
Want to get up close before the green flag drops? The Pre-Race Track Pass lets you step onto the track surface near the start/finish line and be part of the action before the race begins. You’ll have access to driver introductions, the pre-race show, and the Patriots Jet Team flyover.
Note: This pass does not include general admission or grandstand access. You’ll need a separate race ticket to enter the track.
Rent a scanner
Want to hear what really goes on during the race? Rent a scanner and listen in on live, unfiltered team radio from your favorite drivers all weekend long. You can also tune into the full race broadcast right from your seat.
At a NASCAR race, if you’re thinking about doing something — grabbing food, using the restroom, heading to a new spot — thousands of other fans probably are too. To beat the rush, plan ahead and move before peak times. Avoid busy periods for food and restroom breaks so you can spend more time enjoying the race and less time standing in line.
Our grandstands guide is your go-to resource for finding the best viewing areas — each section offers a unique view of the track. Think about the experience you want. Want to be close to the action? Prefer a higher seat for better photos? Plan ahead to avoid missing out. Keep in mind that racetracks are large, and moving between areas can take time, especially as the crowd builds. Try to limit how much you move during the race to avoid long walks during busy periods.
